Can You Reuse Tea Bags?

Do you ever feel guilty about tossing a tea bag into the trash can and wonder, can you reuse tea bags? If you love your tea, then you sure use a lot of tea bags on a daily basis and this definitely amount to a lot of tea bags. If you are environmentally conscious, then you may have thought about how else you can dispose of your tea bags or whether they have any other use.

So, can you reuse tea bags? The answer is a definite yes. There are plenty of ways to put these used tea bags into use after steeping them once or twice. Here are 7 ways you can reuse your tea bags:

1. A Second Steep

Casually tossing away a used tea bag after dunking it in a cup is usually the way for most people. But did you know that for some artisan teas, the first steep isn’t the best for a number of reasons? Teabags are usually tightly rolled and take some time to fully unfurl and release their flavor thus a second steep is better.

2. Feeding Your Plants

Biodegradable tea bags are a great source of plant food as you can decompose them. Using your used tea bags to nourish your plants is especially good if the plants like acidity. Try sprinkling used tea bags at the base of your planter before adding in more soil.

3. Deodorize Your Smelly Shoes

Do you perhaps have smelly shoes due one or another reason? Can you reuse tea bags to remedy that? The answer is yes! That used tea bag can be used to rid your shoes of the odor. Insert used tea bags into the shoes and wait for them to soak up all the bad odor.

4. Rid Carpets Of Bad Smell

Yes, that’s right! A used tea bag can be used to deodorize rugs and carpets. Soak up your used tea bag in warm water and spread the loose leaves on the carpet. Let them dry up and vacuum. Flavored tea bags like mint tea and lemon tea work even better if you like the scent.

5. Antioxidant Baths

Tea, especially orthodox teas, is a great source of antioxidants, which are key to skin rejuvenation. After you have detoxed internally, take the used tea bags and soak them up in your bath to help get rid of dead skin and body odor.

6. Glass Cleaning

Ran out of glass cleaner and it’s not time for grocery shopping yet? Just re-brew your used tea back and use the resulting liquid and a lint-free cloth to clean glass table tops and window pans. The results are just as good as the first cup of tea was.

7. Get Rid of Eye Bags and Dark Circles

You can have a spa day at the comfort of your home thanks to your used tea bags. After you have enjoyed your cup of green tea or chamomile tea, let them cool and then place them on your closed eyelids to help reduce skin inflammation. Used tea bags can do much more than just to end up in the trash can. They can be reused in the kitchen to add flavor, in the bathroom to nourish your skin, in the garden to improve its productivity, and in the living room to rid it of unwanted odor. The possibilities are endless.
